turtle hides Dementia

O madness in a country of madmen. So the work can be defined George Georgiou, a photographer who specializes in the Balkans and eastern Europe, having lived several years in Serbia, Turkey and Greece. He is the author author of "Hidden: Psychiatric Hospitals" , a photographic collection held at three psychiatric institutions in Serbia and Kosovo between 1999 and 2002.

There we see the appalling conditions in which these poor people survive the lack of economic resources, including the criteria for inclusion of patients was quite arbitrary, since the photographer himself has commented that came to identify patients who should not be in such centers, because individuals with Down syndrome, lame, etc.. (The guy without legs, which then was an orphan will observe the victim of a traffic accident).

Georgiou has twice won the prestigious "World Press Photo" in 2003 and 2005, besides the "Nikon Press Award" in 2004. Here are some of the photos in this dark dimension of alienation and misery that it captured their objective.
